Text | Joseph Gilpin, third son and sixth child of Thomas and Joan (Bartholomew) Gilpin, born in Warborough, Oxfordshire, England, 4mo. (June) 8, 1663, was reared in the Society of Friends, of which his father was a minister, and held to that faith throughout his life. At the time of his marriage he was a weaver by trade, living in Dorchester, Oxfordshire, an ancient town on the river Thames about two miles from his native town of Warborough. He married, i2mo. 23, 1691, in a Quaker Meeting at Baghurst, Hampshire, Hannah (jlover, of Ichingswell, Parish of Kingsclerc, Hampshire, daughter of George Glover, deceased, by his wife, Alice Lamboll, later of Dorchester.
