Generation: 1

  1. 1.  William Gregg, IIWilliam Gregg, II was born in 1642 in Glenarm, Antrim County, Northern Ireland (son of William Gregg, Sr. and Mary Grace James); died on 1 Jul 1687 in New Castle County, Delaware, USA; was buried in Gregg Plantation Burial Grounds.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Physical Description: 1667
    • Immigration: 1682, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA
    • Residence: 1683, Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, USA; Granted 200 acres
    • Residence: 3 Mar 1685, Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, USA; 400 acres land. On this land he built his home, which he called "Strand Millas"

    Notes:

    Physical Description:
...Footnote: "One William Gregg of Toberhead Mtg., and Ann Wilkinson, of Antrim Mtg., County Antrim, were married at Antrim, 11 Mo. 5, 1702…" NOTE: this is obviously a different William as the year of marriage is after "our" William's death

    Immigration:
The Caledonia is sometimes mentioned as the ship William came over on...I cannot find this ship in available lists. It is more likely he arrived on the ship Welcome (aka William Penn's fleet), which arrived in DE on 27 Oct 1682, & Chester, PA on the 28th.

William married Mrs. William Gregg about 1667 in Ireland. Mrs. was born about 1644; died before 1682 in Ireland. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Married:
Date is just a guess based on son, John's year of birth. NOTE: The somewhat common belief that William's wife was Ann Wilkinson probably originates from a careless reading of the footnote on pg 319 of "Immigration of Irish Quakers by Albert Myers"...

    Children:
    1. John Henry Gregg was born in 1668 in Ardmore, Donegal, Ireland; died on 6 Mar 1738 in Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, USA; was buried in Centre Monthly Meeting Cemetery.
    2. Ann Gregg was born in 1670 in Ardmore, Waterford County, Ireland; died in 1729 in New Castle County, Delaware, USA.
