Per interview with son, Paul on 11/14/06 - Paul remembers Frederick smoking a pipe when he was home but would only smoke cigarettes when he was traveling and meeting with customers.

Per interview with granddaughter, JoAnne 11/14/06 - Fred slept up in the attic in a nightgown and cap and had a pee pot under the bed. Before going to bed he would put a large wad of money on the top step of the attic stairs. He felt it would be safe there. JoAnne would sleep with him sometimes and would watch him place the money on the step but in the morning she saw the money was gone and asked him where it went. He would tell her the mice took it for their nest.
